The last first

I have four kids. We have been through three 'first birthday' parties. The last one is coming soon. Too soon.

We are about to host ....The Last First Birthday Party!!!

Don't cry, don't cry.... here's a tissue. I see you sentimental types tearing up. What? It's just me??

I am not ready to say goodbye to baby-dom. But, frankly - neither is my 11.5 month old!

She still perfectly fits her 3-6 month old clothes. Including sleepers. When she is wearing one (instead of 'older' baby looking clothes) she totally freaks strangers out when they learn she is almost a year! :)

She doesn't even have a tooth. Well.... this is almost not true anymore. She is cutting her first tooth. It is on TOP. Isn't that weird? Between you and me. Isn't the first two teeth supposed to be the bottom two??

She eats baby food - but will honestly dry heave and gag on any actual solids other than graham crackers. She thinks you're out of your mind if you try to give her a Cheerio. She will munch on your shoelace - but a Cheerio is out of the question. She won't eat those baby fruit puffs either. Or soft fruit.

But fruit is another story. She barely eats it. But if you open a jar of mashed green beans, peas, corn or yams - she literally starts to shake with delight. And now... she claps. The girl adores veggies. I can't complain. Just never seen anything like this in my life!

She is the only baby we have had that still fits in her infant car seat at this age.

She doesn't stand up. So....obviously she isn't walking.

She doesn't pull up - we didn't have to lower her crib from the high newborn setting until she was 10.5 months! (She didn't learn to sit by herself until then.)

And for any of you 'child specialists' out there - there is nothing wrong with her. She is my gift from God. If I had a last baby who didn't truly savor the baby experience, I would be sad. If I had a baby who was standing at 7 months and walking at 10 the phase would be over too soon for me.

I am 100% convinced we are purely dealing with birth order here. Being the 4th in 5.5 years leaves little time for working on motor skills. But she'll get it. And all too soon too.

They all grow up too soon! So here's to you baby Talia! I love you so much! I love your cuddles and your sweet baby hair. Your smell, and your little petite fingers!

My kids will always be my babies - but for now, one of them is turning 1, just a little too soon!

(Okay, I'm bummed. I don't know what the problem is, but I can't upload any pics on blogger since yesterday. Have you had this happen? What is the prob? They say they are uploading, and then when it looks like it is finished, it just freezes.)

  1. Well my 11 month old is reveling in being a baby too. He however is 24 lbs and wearing 18-24 mo clothing. He loves his bottle and pureed anything, but gags on the little fruit puffs. He can sit by himself if sat up, but can't go from lying down to sitting up on his own. He doesn't crawl and only occasionally will actually bear his own weight when we try to stand him on his feet. Maybe it just is a youngest thing. I'm not sure if this is our last first coming up, but maybe...

  2. Here's to baby T! I cannot BELIEVE she's close to a year sweetie. May you enjoy the "last one." I keep finding myself saying "this is the last...blah, blah, blah..." with Josh and he's FIVE. Oh dear. Love you!

  3. Terra - I'm glad we're in the same boat! Our boy was pretty big too! He wore 2T clothes to his first birthday party. There's no way I could do that with this one! :)
I think it is a youngest thing! She really (maybe for just a second) doesn't bear her weight yet either. - but it's not like they are going to crawl into Kindergarten - so it'll be just fine!! :)

  4. The veggie factor is hilarious - Evelyn was like that, too! She is still our tiniest little one but eats pretty much anything. When she was an infant she would only eat orange things...so weird right? Squash, carrots, etc. and her skin was yellow because of it. :) Thank goodness for phases!
